Baguio: The local Commission on Elections (Comelec) office has announced the opening of at least two satellite voter registration sites daily from August 1 to 10, supplementing its main office to cater to registrants, particularly those eligible for the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.
According to Philippines News Agency, Comelec Baguio election officer, lawyer John Paul Martin, emphasized the importance of maximizing registration output, especially for the SK. "We will try to maximize output, particularly for the SK, given that we only have 10 days," Martin stated. The office aims to register at least 200 individuals daily, totaling approximately 2,000 registrants during the designated period.
Martin highlighted the focus on first-time registrants aged 15 and above to enhance SK registration. He mentioned that even if the December 1 Barangay and SK elections do not proceed, the registration efforts would still be valuable as these youth registrants would eventually become regular voters.
The planned satellite registration locations include Fairview Village and Saint Louis University Navy Base; NIIT and Irisan National High School; Pacdal and West Quirino Hill; University of the Cordilleras High School and the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs Office; Pinsao Proper and Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO); Bureau of Jail Management and Penology and Baguio City National High School (BCNHS); Saint Louis University Navy Base and BCNHS; Fort Del Pilar and Sto. Tomas Proper, in addition to their main office on Governor Pak Road.
Martin reiterated the commitment to making Comelec services more accessible to the public by establishing satellite registration sites throughout the city.
