Manila: Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has urged residents of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) to comply with election rules and regulations as the election period for the Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections (BPE) commenced on July 16 and will continue until September 29. The BPE is scheduled for September 14.
According to Philippines News Agency, Comelec Chairperson George Garcia made a public appeal emphasizing the importance of a peaceful and orderly lead-up to the elections. "We want to ensure that the days leading to the election is peaceful and orderly. So, we plead for your full cooperation," Garcia stated in a phone interview.
The Commission has highlighted specific prohibited acts during this period, such as the ban on carrying firearms or other deadly weapons. Additionally, checkpoints will be set up across all 105 municipalities and three cities in the region to enforce these regulations. Garcia assured the public that although checkpoints might cause inconvenience, citizens' rights will be upheld.
Candidates have also been reminded of restrictions, including the prohibition of employing security personnel or bodyguards and the organization of any strike or reaction forces. Furthermore, the suspension or transfer of officers and employees within the civil service without prior approval from the Commission is forbidden during the election period.
Moreover, the Comelec has stated that altering the territory of a precinct or establishing a new precinct is not permitted during this time.
