Negros Occidental: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has identified alternative voting centers for the upcoming May 12 midterm elections in areas impacted by the eruption of Mt. Kanlaon. Provincial Election Supervisor Ian Lee Ananoria announced during a press conference that he inspected alternative voting centers in La Castellan and La Carlota City on April 23.
According to Philippines News Agency, 718 registered voters from Ara-al and Yubo in La Carlota City will continue to vote at their respective polling centers, Ara-al Elementary School and Yubo Elementary School. In the event of ashfall, these voters will be redirected to Do±a Hortencia Salas Benedicto National High School senior high school buildings.
The La Carlota SPED Integrated School will serve as a temporary voting center for displaced voters from Barangay 1, while voters from Barangay Cubay will vote at Cubay Elementary School. Under the current contingency plan, which operates under Alert Level 3 with a 6-km extended danger zone, 12,479 registered voters in nine barangays are designated to vote in alternative centers.
In Pontevedra, 725 voters from Barangay Gomez will cast their votes at Antipolo National High School, while 665 voters from Barangay Zamora will vote at Antipolo Elementary School. Additionally, 2,102 voters from Barangay Ilijan, Bago City, will vote at Ramon Torres Louisiana National High School in Barangay Ma-ao.
In La Castellana, various arrangements have been made: 219 voters from Barangay Biak na Bato will vote at Biak na Bato Elementary School; 1,200 voters from Barangay Cabagna-an at La Castellana National High School; 273 voters from Mansalanao at Mansalanao Elementary School; 332 voters from Barangay Masulog at Masulog Elementary School; and 92 voters from Barangay Sag-ang at Sag-ang Elementary School. Moreover, 6,871 registered voters from Barangay Minoyan have been assigned to vote at Murcia National High School.
Comelec data indicates that if Mt. Kanlaon's status escalates to Alert Level 4, expanding the danger zone to 10 km, approximately 80,683 registered voters in 27 barangays across the cities of Bago, La Carlota, San Carlos, and the municipalities of La Castellana, Murcia, and Pontevedra will be affected.
