Manila: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is anticipating that more than 300 candidates will submit their Certificates of Candidacy (COCs) for the Regional Parliamentary District Representatives positions in the upcoming Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections (BPE) scheduled for September. This expectation underscores the significant interest in the regional political landscape.

According to Philippines News Agency, Comelec chairperson George Garcia revealed that they anticipate around 320 contenders to file their COCs before the deadline on Thursday. Garcia noted that they foresee at least 10 COCs being filed for each district, indicating a robust participation across the region.

The BPE, set for September 14, will see the election of 32 parliamentary district representatives. These representatives will fill seats allocated as follows: four for Basilan, nine for Lanao del Sur, five each for Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur, four for Tawi-Tawi, three for Cotabato City, and two for the Special Geographic Area.

In accordance with Comelec Resolution No. 11216, the filing period for COCs is scheduled from May 5 to 7, with submissions to be made at the Bangsamoro Electoral Office. On the first day of the filing period, a total of 22 COCs were reported to have been submitted across various parliamentary districts, reflecting early enthusiasm among potential candidates.
