Manila: Personnel of the city government of Dapitan planted 60 native seedlings during a coastal tree-planting activity on Thursday, strengthening its commitment to environmental conservation.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Dapitan City Information Division (DCID) stated that the native trees planted include the Balokbalok, Bituag, and Talisay, which were strategically placed along the shoreline of Purok Pasil in Barangay Polo. The initiative is part of the city's ongoing efforts to restore and protect its coastal ecosystem by introducing indigenous tree species.

The DCID highlighted that the chosen tree species are well-suited to the shoreline environment, offering benefits such as preventing coastal erosion, restoring habitats, and enhancing community resilience against climate change and storm surges. This activity is a segment of Dapitan City's broader environmental conservation program, aiming to increase green spaces and promote community involvement in preserving the city's natural resources.

The city's government, through its continuous collaboration with local leaders, government personnel, and residents, is committed to cultivating a greener and more resilient future. Each tree planted symbolizes a step towards a healthier and more climate-resilient Dapitan.

The event was spearheaded by Dapitan City Councilor Dennis Tan, the chair of the City Council's Committee on Agriculture, alongside village officials and personnel from the City Environment and Natural Resources Office.
