Dengue Situation in Philippines Deemed Manageable by Health Department

Manila: The Department of Health (DOH) in the Philippines has reported 123,291 cases of dengue across the country from January 1 to June 7. However, the department has assured the public that the situation remains "manageable."

According to Philippines News Agency, the DOH noted a noticeable increase in dengue cases among children aged five to nine, with cases reaching 27,358. Despite the rise, the department emphasized that the situation can be controlled, particularly with enhanced vector control measures.

During the period from April 27 to May 10, the DOH recorded 6,192 dengue cases. This number rose slightly to 6,270 cases between May 11 and May 24, marking a six-percent increase. Despite this uptick, the fatality rate as of June 7 remains low at 0.4 percent, equating to four deaths per 1,000 dengue patients nationwide.

In addition to focusing on vector control, the DOH is intensifying its dengue awareness campaign in collaboration with the Department of Education. This initiative follows the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to safeguard children in public schools.
