DepEd Mourns Loss of Muntinlupa Teacher While on Duty

Muntinlupa city: The Department of Education (DepEd) mourned the passing of a public school teacher who died while on duty in Muntinlupa City. "The Department of Education (DepEd) extends its deepest condolences to the family, colleagues, and learners of Teacher Agnes Buenaflor of Pedro E. Diaz High School in Muntinlupa City. We mourn the loss of a dedicated educator and stand in solidarity with the school community during this difficult time," DepEd Media Relations Head Dennis Legaspi said in a statement late Thursday.

According to Philippines News Agency, Buenaflor reportedly died after being rushed to the hospital following a classroom observation on January 7. Legaspi urged the public to refrain from spreading speculations amid the challenging moment for the family. "We are also looking into the circumstances surrounding the incident and respectfully ask the public to refrain from spreading unverified or speculative information, out of respect for the family and all those affected," he said.

The DepEd, meanwhile, vowed to continuously uphold its commitment to both strengthening professional practice and the welfare of teachers and learners. "We reiterate the value of classroom observation as a tool for improving teaching quality, supporting teacher development, and enhancing learner outcomes when conducted as a shared learning experience grounded in commitment, trust, and respect," Legaspi said.

All schools and field offices were also reminded to conduct classroom observations in a "supportive and non-intimidating manner to foster growth and professional development."
