Manila: The Department of Education (DepEd) on Friday postponed the National Safe Schools Summit and Safety Drill to ensure learners' well-being amid class suspensions in Manila. This decision comes as the country braces for the effects of Typhoon Inday (international name: Bavi) and the enhanced southwest monsoon.
According to Philippines News Agency, the safety drills were originally scheduled to be held at Manila Science High School, as part of the agency's efforts to intensify security protocols against in-campus threats. 'This is in view of the suspension of face-to-face classes in Manila due to inclement weather, pursuant to the advisory of the City Government of Manila based on the recommendation of the Manila City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (MCDRRMD),' the DepEd said in an advisory.
The advisory further emphasized, 'We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we prioritize the safety and well-being of our school community.' The new schedule, meanwhile, will be announced via the agency's official communication channels, it added.
