DFA Investigates Harassment of Presidential Communications Officer in Canada

Vancouver: The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is looking into the harassment incident involving Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro during President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s visit to Canada last week.

According to Philippines News Agency, Foreign Affairs spokesperson Analyn Ratonel stated that DFA Secretary Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro has instructed the Philippine Embassy in Ottawa and the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver to coordinate with Canadian authorities. They aim to determine the specifics of the incident, as well as the applicable laws and security protocols covering visiting foreign dignitaries.

A video showing Filipino protesters following and harassing Castro in Vancouver has been circulating on social media. In response to the incident, Castro expressed her respect for the protesters' right to free speech and decided not to pursue legal action. She admitted that she was initially surprised by the protesters' behavior but chose to ignore the incident.
