DHSUD Alerts Shelter Clusters for ‘Crising’

Manila: The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) on Friday alerted its regional offices to ensure readiness and timely response based on President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s order for government agencies to monitor the effects of Tropical Storm Crising. "In compliance with the President's directive and given the current weather situation, all regional directors, assistant regional directors, officers-in-charge are advised to activate your monitoring and assistance units, convene and/or call upon the shelter cluster and its members," DHSUD Undersecretary for Disaster Response Henry Yap said in a statement. He also instructed them to closely monitor the situation in their respective areas of jurisdiction and to submit daily reports. "The same shall include information of affected areas, estimates of affected persons, action taken by your office, requested action from central, if any," he added.

According to Philippines News Agency, on Thursday, Malaca±ang ordered all concerned government agencies to closely monitor the effects of Crising after the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) raised a blue alert on Wednesday to ensure coordinated response efforts amid the weather disturbance. The DHSUD leads the government's shelter cluster, as mandated by NDRRMC Memorandum 5 series of 2022.

Under the Marcos administration, the DHSUD launched the Integrated Disaster Shelter Assistance Program, which provides unconditional cash assistance of PHP30,000 to families whose houses were destroyed and PHP10,000 for those whose houses were damaged. The agency also distributes home materials and essentials to victims of typhoons as immediate assistance.
