Dinagat Governor Suspends Classes Amid Flooding Threat

Dinagat islands: Dinagat Islands Governor Nilo Demerey Jr. on Friday ordered the suspension of classes at all levels, both in public and private schools, as heavy rains continue to impact the province. 'The accumulated rainfall over the past several days has saturated the ground and increased the risk of flooding and landslides in several areas in the province,' Demerey said in a message sent to the Philippine News Agency.

According to Philippines News Agency, this precautionary measure aims to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and school personnel across the area. Demerey also advised residents to stay vigilant and closely follow any additional weather advisories and instructions from local authorities.

Meanwhile, several local government units (LGUs) on the island have prepositioned food and relief supplies amid the ongoing rains caused by Tropical Storm Crising. For instance, the Libjo LGU, through its Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, scheduled relief delivery to remote barangays on Friday.

In a report, the Libjo town government said two remote areas-Barangays Kanihaan and San Antonio-were prioritized for the prepositioning and delivery of relief goods. The LGU specified that seven sitios within these two barangays-Melody, Camboy-ay, Orquita, Katiponan, Payopayo, Botong, and Baliti-will be prioritized for relief.
