Dizon Orders Suspension of Road Reblocking Projects Nationwide

Manila: The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has announced the suspension of road reblocking activities across the country. This decision will remain in effect until a new Department Order (DO) is issued, outlining updated guidelines for the implementation of these projects. Secretary Vince Dizon stated that the department will focus on creating new guidelines before any projects resume.

According to Philippines News Agency, Dizon expressed concerns during a press conference held at the DPWH main office in Port Area, Manila. He questioned the need for reblocking activities on roads that appear to be in satisfactory condition. Dizon remarked, "Why are there roads that are in good condition being torn down, destroyed and then rebuilt? Well, I think we all know that there is money involved when one destroys a road and then rebuild it."

Dizon highlighted specific projects in Bocaue, Bulacan, and Tuguegarao, where roads undergoing repairs seemed to be in good condition. "These road reblocking activities have been suspended," he confirmed. Dizon emphasized the importance of transparency, stating that the new Department Order will clearly communicate the reasons for any roadwork, whether destruction or construction, to the public.

He clarified that roads in dilapidated condition requiring urgent repairs are exempt from the suspension. Additionally, Dizon urged the public to report any ongoing reblocking activities through the DPWH's social media platforms, promising prompt action in response.

Dizon warned district engineers against defying the suspension, stating that they would face consequences for not adhering to the directive.
