Cagayan de oro: The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has provided relief assistance to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Northern Mindanao amounting to PHP2.2 million.
According to Philippines News Agency, at a press briefing, DMW Undersecretary Bernard Olalia stated that 43 OFWs, primarily from Misamis Oriental province, sought help through the Agarang Kalinga at Saklolo para sa mga OFWs na Nangangailangan (Aksyon) Fund. These OFWs faced scams upon their arrival in South Korea.
Furthermore, four additional OFWs received boxes containing relief items, each valued at PHP120,000. The Aksyon Fund is designated for urgent and critical assistance needed by OFWs encountering challenges abroad and for their families left behind.
Olalia also noted that the DMW is actively monitoring recruitment schemes advertised online for work and study abroad. He cautioned that agencies offering placement services might be operating illegally if they lack a license from the DMW, despite claims of registration with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority or the Department of Labor and Employment.
