PBBM Secures 5 Business, 3 Government Deals in Cambodia Trip

Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s three-day state visit to Cambodia yielded five business agreements and three government-to-government deals, aimed at strengthening economic and bilateral relations between Manila and Phnom Penh.

According to Philippines News Agency, in his arrival message upon returning to Manila, Marcos reported his engagements with Cambodian leaders and top businesses, which centered on future collaborations and cooperation in key areas. He had discussions with Acting Head of State and Senate President Hun Sen and Prime Minister Hun Manet, emphasizing the mutual regard for close bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

Marcos highlighted the productive engagement with top businesses in Cambodia, accompanied by the official business delegation. Discussions focused on complementary strengths and unique opportunities for growth and market diversification. The meeting culminated in strategic partnerships, marked by the signing of five business agreements focused on sectors such as aviation, logistics, and women-led micro, small, and medium enterprises.

The business deals aim to explore market opportunities for Philippine exports and foster institutional partnerships between the two nations' business associations. Marcos emphasized the collective interest in bolstering intra-ASEAN trade by enhancing market access, noting ASEAN's economic dynamism and the strengthening middle class.

In 2024, total trade between the Philippines and Cambodia reached USD105.69 million. Three key agreements were also signed between the Philippine and Cambodian governments, covering police cooperation, higher education, and air connectivity.

Marcos stated the importance of addressing emerging security threats in the region and affirmed the determination to combat criminal elements exploiting technology. Manila and Phnom Penh agreed to collaborate extensively on preventing illegal recruitment and trafficking in persons.

Marcos expressed appreciation for Cambodia's support for the Philippines' bid for a non-permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council and for the ASEAN chairship in 2026. He also acknowledged the contributions of the Filipino Community in Cambodia, sharing developments in the Philippines aimed at improving the quality of life for all Filipinos.
