DOH Activates Code White Alert Across Ilocos Region as Typhoon Inday Approaches

Ilocos region: The Department of Health (DOH) 1 has placed all government and private hospitals, rural health units, and other health facilities across the Ilocos Region under Code White Alert as Super Typhoon Inday (international name Bavi) enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). This action is part of the department's preparedness measures for the potential impact of the approaching typhoon.

According to Philippines News Agency, DOH-1 Director Helen Tobias emphasized the importance of public safety, urging residents to strictly adhere to advisories from local authorities as the typhoon draws near. She highlighted that the DOH-1 Operations Center will continue its round-the-clock monitoring of health-related incidents and maintain continuous coordination with provincial, city, municipal, and hospital emergency operations centers to ensure a unified, timely, and effective emergency health response.

Tobias advised the public to evacuate immediately if necessary and prepare essential items such as medicines, a first-aid kit, clean and safe drinking water, while also avoiding wading in floodwaters. She reminded the community to observe health precautions during all phases of the typhoon.

The DOH-1 is committed to providing essential health services during the emergency and will work closely with local governments, hospitals, emergency responders, and partners to protect public health. As of 2 p.m. Wednesday, Typhoon Inday was located 1,205 km east of Northern Luzon, with maximum sustained winds of 195 km per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 240 kph, as reported by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration. Although landfall is unlikely, the typhoon is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon, causing moderate to heavy rains in the northern and western regions of the country.
