Quezon city: The ongoing investigation into the case of missing 'sabungeros' (cockfight aficionados) is 'not personality-driven' nor directed at any particular group of individuals, an official from the Department of Justice (DOJ) stated. Justice Undersecretary Raul Vasquez emphasized that the investigation is focused purely on gathering evidence and ensuring accountability for those found involved.
According to Philippines News Agency, the DOJ is in the process of collating pieces of evidence related to the case. Vasquez highlighted that the objective is to strengthen any case or cases that may be filed based on the evidence gathered. He reiterated that the investigation is not targeting anyone specifically and that the focus remains on uncovering the truth and holding those responsible accountable.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has called for a thorough investigation into the case, urging that those behind the alleged abduction and murder of the victims be held accountable. Palace Press Officer Claire Castro noted that the government anticipates a fair and unbiased probe, even as some influential personalities have been implicated in the case.
One of the suspects, Julie Patidongan, also known as Totoy, has accused several police officers, a showbiz personality, and gaming tycoon Atong Ang of being involved in the disappearance of the 34 missing sabungeros. The whistleblower alleged that the bodies of the victims were disposed of in Taal Lake in Batangas province.
