DOTr Chief Calls on OTS to Create Interactive Travel Safety Campaign

Manila: Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista on Tuesday called on the Office for Transportation Security (OTS) to create enhanced security measures that would encourage travelers to be vigilant in reporting suspicious activities. During the oathtaking of newly promoted OTS screening officers, Bautista urged the OTS to engage commuters and travelers through interactive campaigns, safety mobile applications, and in-terminal exhibits.

According to Philippines News Agency, Bautista emphasized that these initiatives could highlight best practices for personal safety and explain the importance of specific security measures. He noted that these campaigns would help demystify security processes and build trust and partnership with the public. Bautista also stressed the importance of continued investments in advanced security technology, training, infrastructure, biometric identification, and artificial intelligence-driven threat detection. "Innovation must be at the forefront of our security strategy," he said.

Bautista lauded the efforts of OTS Administrator Undersecretary Crizaldo Nieves and the rest of the OTS leadership for their pro-active approach to transport security and other reforms. He added that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. himself has received favorable feedback on the country's transportation security. Bautista assured that the Department of Transportation is committed to supporting the programs of the OTS.
