DOTr Chief Confirms NAIA’s Readiness for Holy Week Passenger Surge

Manila: The Department of Transportation (DOTr) assured that the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is ready to accommodate the expected high volume of passengers this Holy Week.

According to Philippine News Agency, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, together with officials from operator New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC), the Manila International Airport Authority, and the Bureau of Immigration (BI), conducted inspections at NAIA Terminal 3 early Tuesday to assess the airport's preparedness for the anticipated influx.

Dizon noted the airport's readiness and emphasized the importance of maintaining this state of preparedness to ensure smooth travel experiences not only during Holy Week but throughout the year. During the officials' morning visit, fewer people at the immigration counters and faster queues were observed.

The BI had previously announced the deployment of 48 additional personnel to NAIA to augment manpower during Holy Week. In addition, this month saw the opening of dedicated counters for overseas Filipino workers at Terminal 3.

Dizon and other officials also conducted inspections at Terminal 3 last week. NNIC general manager Lito Alvarez reported that the total daily average passenger volume at the country's main gateway could reach 155,000 to 157,000. The San Miguel Corp.-led NNIC anticipates over 1.18 million passengers this Holy Week, marking a 14.23 percent increase from the 1.04 million passengers last year.
