DOTr Offers Free Rides Amid Flooding in NCR, Deploys 43 Vehicles

Manila: The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has deployed 43 government vehicle assets to provide free rides to stranded commuters as heavy rains and flooding continue to affect major roads in Metro Manila.

According to Philippines News Agency, acting DOTr Secretary Giovanni Lopez announced that the free ride program will operate from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and may be extended if necessary. Lopez emphasized the collaboration with various government agencies to ensure the safety and convenience of commuters during this challenging time. The initiative aligns with the President's directive to offer transportation options amidst widespread flooding caused by the southwest monsoon.

The free rides cover 13 routes, offering two-way trips to various destinations including Quiapo to Fairview, Lawton to PITX, Divisoria to Cubao via Nagtahan, Baclaran to Monumento via Taft, Lawton to Muntinlupa Starmall, Heritage to Market Market, Monumento to PITX via the Busway route, Kalentong to Pasig, Buendia to Makati Avenue, Quiapo to Commonwealth, Marikina to Cubao, Sta. Mesa to Q. Avenue via Araneta, and Baclaran to Sucat.

The DOTr is collaborating with the Office of the President, Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Ports Authority, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, Land Transportation Office, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, Department of Energy, Department of Labor and Employment, and the Philippine Army to implement the program.
