Manila: The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Wednesday advised the public that free transport cards being given away by the 'Transportation in Manila' Facebook page are fake and warned against fraudulent transactions with the platform. In an advisory, the DOTr said the transport cards were purportedly being given away as part of the agency's 126th anniversary celebration.

According to Philippines News Agency, the account, with Facebook handle @Transportation-in-Manila, is giving away beep cards by clicking the 'apply now' link on its page. The DOTr clarified that this page is fake and that the agency is not giving away free beep cards as part of its anniversary celebration.

The DOTr called on the public that similar posts with "too-good-to-be-true" offers should not be entertained and to report such social media posts and pages to stop the fraudulent practice.
