Baguio City:Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Giovanni Lopez has affirmed the agency's commitment to completing projects as scheduled, despite a recent change in leadership. This statement was made during an inspection of a completed road slip repair project in Taloy Sur.
According to Philippines News Agency, Lopez highlighted that the directive from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to continue the projects is a commitment not only to the President and Secretary Vince Dizon but also, and more importantly, to the Filipino people. He assured that the shift in leadership would not affect the agency's dedication to providing safe and accessible roads.
Lopez clarified that there are no changes in leadership or personnel positions within the regional and district offices nationwide. This stability is intended to ensure that all projects are completed on time. The DPWH recently completed a PHP15.04-million road slip repair project within five months, a crucial route for travelers to and from Baguio City, which was damaged by Typhoon Nando in September 2025 and further impacted by Typhoon Uwan two months later.
The DPWH committed to President Marcos that the road would be open to two-way traffic for All Saints' and All Souls' Day, and it was indeed opened to the public at 6 p.m. on Friday. Ronald Dioso, a part-time taxi driver, expressed that the road's reopening allows them to transport passengers to Tuba, about 20 kilometers from Baguio's central business district, without delays, ensuring safe and smooth travel.
