Passenger Surge Reported at Bicol Ports as Undas Travel Begins

Taiz:Bicol A significant movement of travelers was observed at the Bicol Region's ports, with 2,211 passengers passing through in just six hours on Friday, marking the start of the Undas (All Saints' and All Souls' Days) travels.

According to Philippines News agency, Commodore Rolando Lorenzana of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Bicol reported that the passenger count, recorded from 6 a.m. to noontime, included 1,131 outbound and 1,080 inbound travelers. Additionally, the PCG noted that 481 rolling cargoes were processed during this period.

In preparation for the influx of travelers, the district stationed 563 personnel on standby and conducted inspections of 18 vessels. As part of Oplan Byaheng Ayos Undas 2026, the Coast Guard District Bicol and Eastern Visayas have set up Malasakit Help Desks at major ports. These desks are staffed by personnel from Coast Guard stations in Sorsogon, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Albay, Catanduanes, and Masbate, along with augmented personnel from district headquarters and operational control units.

The help desks are designed to offer travel assistance, respond to passenger inquiries and concerns, and provide immediate aid during emergencies or other incidents. Commodore Lorenzana emphasized the importance of passenger cooperation with authorities and adherence to maritime safety regulations, encouraging travelers to utilize the help desks for any needed assistance.

PCG Bicol is also enhancing coordination efforts with the Philippine Ports Authority, other government agencies, and partner uniformed services to improve port security, facilitate passenger movement, and ensure effective emergency response services.
