Pasig city: The F. Manalo Bridge in Pasig City is set for a major upgrade as Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon announced plans to expand it from two to four lanes. This development comes in response to a request from Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto, as revealed during an inspection of the bridge.
According to Philippines News Agency, Dizon emphasized that the resolution of right-of-way issues on the bridge's Quezon City side is a prerequisite for commencing construction on the permanent structure. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) aims to initiate the reconstruction process within the year.
Currently, motorists rely on a temporary bridge constructed by a Japanese contractor, following the severe damage inflicted on the original bridge by Typhoon Carina in 2024. Notably, the temporary bridge was provided at no expense to the government.
Dizon highlighted that the DPWH's priorities include the swift repair and rehabilitation of damaged bridges nationwide. This aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to improve traffic flow and ensure public safety through immediate infrastructure repairs.
