Butuan city: A drug suspect was arrested, and PHP1.4 million worth of suspected shabu was confiscated following a buy-bust operation conducted in Purok 4, Barangay Maon in this city on Monday, the Police Regional Office (PRO) 13 (Caraga) reported.
According to Philippines News Agency, the arrested suspect, identified as alias Angkol, 63, yielded 210 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated street value of PHP1.43 million. Also seized by police operatives from the suspect were PHP10,000 in marked money, a mobile phone, and an identification card.
'The arrested individual and the confiscated pieces of evidence are now under the custody of the City Drug Enforcement Unit of the Butuan City Police Office for proper documentation and disposition,' PRO-13 Director, Brig. General Marcial Mariano Magistrado IV, said in a statement on Tuesday. He said the suspect will face criminal charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Magistrado lauded the support of the other police units during the operation, including the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 13. 'The PRO-13 will not allow these illegal drug traders to roam freely on the streets, destroying lives and threatening peace and order in our region,' he said. He also recognized the continued support of communities in the fight against illegal drugs in the region.
