Davao region: The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 11 reported that the southwest monsoon, locally known as 'habagat,' has led to four deaths, five missing persons, and one injury in the region.
According to Philippines News Agency, the DSWD's Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center situational report indicated that the weather disturbance has impacted 3,936 individuals, or 1,266 families, across 19 barangays in four municipalities. The habagat has also resulted in the damage of 184 houses throughout the region.
In Davao Occidental, 907 families, or 2,763 individuals, were affected across 17 barangays. The municipality of Jose Abad Santos experienced the most severe impact, with 874 families, or 2,664 individuals, affected in 16 barangays. All 179 families who evacuated are currently housed in nine evacuation centers. The municipality also reported 151 houses destroyed and 18 others damaged.
DSWD-11 has distributed 1,200 family food packs in Jose Abad Santos. In Sarangani, 33 families, or 99 individuals, from one barangay were affected, with 15 houses destroyed. The agency has provided 1,558 family food packs worth PHP1.3 million to families impacted in the region. Additionally, in Davao del Sur, 286 family food packs were delivered to Sulop town, and 72 were distributed in Kiblawan.
"As part of the government's immediate response, DSWD will provide PHP20,000 in cash relief assistance to the family of each deceased individual to help meet their immediate needs," the agency stated. It further mentioned that it continues to coordinate with local government units and partner agencies to ensure the timely delivery of assistance and support to affected families.
