Ilocos region: The Department of Social Welfare and Development-Ilocos Region (DSWD-1) has distributed 59,140 food and non-food items to support the relief operations of local government units (LGUs).

According to Philippines News Agency, the bulk of the items were distributed to Pangasinan, totaling 36,486. In La Union, 14,205 were distributed to weather-affected families, and 8,199 in Ilocos Sur.

The food items include family and ready-to-eat food packs, while non-food items include sleeping, hygiene, and kitchen kits, as well as laminated sacks. Each family food pack contains six kilos of rice, four cans of tuna, four cans of corned beef, two cans of sardines, five sachets of instant coffee, and five sachets of cereal.

"The Department continues to coordinate with the local government units to identify the needs of families and individuals and provide the necessary augmentation support," the DSWD-1 stated.

Through coordination with LGUs, national government agencies, and volunteers, the relief items are swiftly delivered to affected families in accordance with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Earlier, the agency had prepositioned 143,705 food and non-food items, ready for distribution to LGUs affected by weather disturbances.

The DSWD also has over PHP2.5 million in standby funds. Under Republic Act 10121, or the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act, the LGUs serve as the first line of defense and must provide immediate disaster response, risk reduction programs, and local-level planning.

"The Department shall provide augmentation for the food and non-food items only upon depletion of LGUs' resources," according to the DSWD Administrative Order No. 2, series of 2021.
