DSWD Prepares Relief Distribution as Rainy Weather Approaches

Manila: The Department of Social Welfare and Development's (DSWD) Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG) is gearing up to distribute various relief resources to localities expected to be affected by the latest weather system impacting the country.

According to Philippines News Agency, DRMG head Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao assured the public of the agency's disaster preparedness, emphasizing that the public should not worry as family food packs (FFPs) are sufficient and prepositioned in all warehouses nationwide. Dumlao stated that the DSWD maintains at least three million FFPs in warehouses ready for immediate distribution, aligning with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive that no one should go hungry during calamities.

DSWD Field Offices in the National Capital Region (NCR), Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Bicol Region, and Eastern Visayas are on high alert. These areas, identified as potential regions to be affected based on forecasts, are maintaining constant communication with local government units (LGUs) for any needed resource augmentation, according to Dumlao.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration has issued warnings of widespread rains, flooding, and landslides. As of 3 p.m., a low-pressure area was located near the coastal waters of Siruma, Camarines Sur. Although it is less likely to develop into a tropical depression, heavy rains are expected in most parts of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao over the next 48 hours.

Beyond FFPs and non-food items, the agency has readied other resources such as mobile kitchens and mobile command centers for deployment to affected areas, particularly evacuation sites. Dumlao also urged the public to remain vigilant and to follow all orders from local authorities to ensure safety.
