Western visayas: The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in Western Visayas have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to enhance consumer education and increase awareness of basic consumer rights and responsibilities among the region's commuting public.

According to Philippines News Agency, DTI Western Visayas Acting Regional Director Mutya Eusores and LTFRB Western Visayas Chief Transportation Development Officer Ma. Joscet Abellar, representing Regional Director Richard Osme±a, spearheaded the signing of the MOU for the 'Mausisaon nga Manugbakal' project. Eusores emphasized the significance of this initiative in making government services more visible and relevant to the daily lives of the Ilonggo public, aiming to reinforce consumer rights and responsibilities awareness across the region.

In an interview, Eusores revealed that the campaign materials are being finalized and are expected to be installed in public utility vehicles (PUVs) either next month or in August. Initially, these materials will be placed in 300 PUVs, containing information on consumer rights and responsibilities, product standards, and other consumer protection advocacy materials.

Eusores highlighted the results of their Consumer Awareness Survey for Western Visayas, conducted by Pulse Asia, as dynamic, expressing a desire for sustainability through this innovative campaign. Abellar noted that Western Visayas is home to nearly 10,000 PUVs, including taxis, modernized jeepneys, and PUV express services. She stated that the LTFRB's role is to ensure that PUVs participate in this initiative and pledged to assist the DTI in coordinating with operators.
