Ilocos norte: The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Ilocos Norte has reported that its Diskwento (Discount) Caravan this year has generated over PHP5.7 million in sales as of June. This initiative reflects strong consumer participation while providing residents access to quality products at reduced prices.
According to Philippines News Agency, Dominador Alberto, Consumer Protection Division chief of DTI Ilocos Norte, shared the data during a virtual discussion. "Of the 13 discount caravans conducted in the province as of June, a total of PHP5,794,801.61 in sales have been recorded, benefiting 32,483 consumers," he stated.
At least seven unique manufacturers and retailers are participating in the caravan. The event includes Kadiwa ng Pangulo pop-up events, bringing together manufacturers, distributors, and local businesses offering a wide range of discounted goods. These goods include food items, household essentials, school supplies, appliances, and other consumer products.
The initiative aims to help consumers stretch their budgets while supporting local enterprises and stimulating economic activity. Participating businesses have reported increased customer traffic and higher sales during the caravan, highlighting the program's role in expanding market opportunities for micro, small, and medium enterprises.
Laoag resident Nelda Aguete expressed her enthusiasm for the event, saying, "I always look forward to the caravan because they offer good deals with bigger discounts compared to other suppliers."
The DTI emphasized that the continued rollout of the caravan, including in remote areas, demonstrates the value of government initiatives that support both consumers and the business community while contributing to economic growth.
