Davao city: Dinagat Islands Governor Nilo Demerey Jr. was honored Thursday as the Philippine Army's best reservist officer of the year by the Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom), coinciding with the command's 19th anniversary celebration. Demerey, who holds the rank of lieutenant colonel in the Armed Forces of the Philippines reserve force, received the award from Eastmincom commander, Lt. Gen. Luis Rex Bergante, during a ceremony at Naval Station Felix Apolinario in Panacan, Davao City.
According to Philippines News Agency, Demerey currently leads both the 2004th Ready Reserve Infantry Brigade and the 1505th Ready Reserve Infantry Battalion, which covers Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands, and Siargao Island. 'Lt. Col. Demerey was cited for his unyielding commitment and dedication to uplifting the lives of not only the reservists but all the constituents in the province of Dinagat Islands,' Eastmincom said in a statement.
The command praised Demerey's perseverance and leadership, stating he exemplifies how grit and commitment can turn aspirations into achievements. In a text message to the Philippine News Agency, Demerey said he was thankful for the recognition, reaffirming his commitment to peace and development efforts in the Caraga Region. 'This will inspire us to continue our resolve to work hand-in-hand with the different stakeholders in the region to achieve sustainable development and peace,' he said.
The award also highlighted the role of reservists in regional stability and development, particularly in remote areas of Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands.
