Pasay city: An official from the online employment marketplace Jobstreet by SEEK emphasized the importance of aiding small businesses in accessing qualified personnel to enhance their growth, during the opening of the MSME Summit at SM Mall of Asia.
According to Philippines News Agency, Dannah Majarocon, the managing director of Jobstreet by SEEK in the Philippines, highlighted the significant presence of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the country, which account for approximately 99.5 percent of total firms nationwide. She noted that micro enterprises constitute about 90 percent of these businesses, while small and medium enterprises make up 9 percent, leaving a small percentage for large corporations.
Majarocon explained the substantial demand for employees within the large number of micro businesses, which often struggle to find capable staff due to a lack of legitimate venues for sourcing qualified candidates. "That's why at Jobstreet by SEEK, we make hiring simple, faster and safer so they can focus on what matters most: Growing business and building livelihoods," she stated.
She further explained that all information about registered businesses and the hundreds of thousands of applicants on their platform undergoes verification, assisting business owners in checking applicants' backgrounds. "We built the tool, and have public and private partnerships to make this ecosystem more relevant," Majarocon shared in an interview.
Majarocon emphasized the necessity of providing training to most MSMEs to help them compete with larger firms, particularly in the use of technological advancements. She acknowledged the barrier faced by micro firm owners who fear digital platforms due to insufficient training compared to larger companies.
"Jobstreet by SEEK believes that every thriving economy is built on the shoulders of its resilient and growing MSMEs. By empowering them through events like the MSME Summit, we're not only helping their businesses grow and connecting them with the right talent, but also fueling job creation and strengthening the local employment," Majarocon remarked.
