Bicol: Local chief executives in Bicol suspended classes in their areas on Tuesday as Tropical Depression Verbena continues to bring heavy rains across the region. In Sorsogon, Governor Edwin Hamor issued an executive order suspending classes at all levels. Hamor stated that Verbena is expected to bring moderate to heavy rainfall that may cause localized flooding in low-lying areas and communities near river channels, as well as possible landslides. The suspension of classes, he said, would ensure the safety and welfare of the students and the teaching and non-teaching personnel. Hamor also ordered all local chief executives within the province to monitor their respective localities and implement necessary precautionary measures.
According to Philippines News Agency, Masbate Governor Richard Kho also ordered the suspension of classes at all levels, both private and public schools. He reminded the public to stay in safe areas, avoid coastal regions, and continue to monitor advisories from their local government units and the weather bureau. "Be prepared for any possible emergency and immediately respond to warnings from authorities. Our Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) and other relevant agencies are on alert to respond immediately to any situation," Kho stated in a social media post.
In Albay province, Governor Noel Rosal posted on social media that the class suspension on Monday is still in effect on Tuesday. He also mentioned that all river crossings, whether on foot or via vehicle, river fishing, and swimming are prohibited until possible flooding subsides. "All City, Municipal, and Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (DRRMCs) are advised to be in preparedness and monitoring status in their respective areas, particularly those exposed to flood, lahar, flash flood, and landslide, and take the appropriate and timely countermeasures and execute localized evacuation as needed," the order stated. Rosal also advised against unnecessary travel, especially on flood-prone roads or near riverbanks, and urged residents to remain on alert for official updates and further advisories from local authorities.
In Catanduanes, Governor Patrick Azanza mentioned that school division superintendents and school heads can assess and implement suspension measures that best serve the safety and learning needs of their communities. He also requested all concerned agencies to implement preparedness and response measures.
Camarines Sur Governor Luis Raymund Villafuerte ordered the immediate clearing and inspection of drainage systems, canals, and other structures to reduce the risk of flooding.
