Manila: EvoEnergi and Scottland Food Group, the Philippine franchise holder of the Korean chicken restaurant Bonchon, have signed a 1,800-kilowatt (kW) power deal under the government's Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) program.

According to Philippines News Agency, the agreement covers 17 Bonchon facilities, allowing the fast-food chain to source its power needs directly from a licensed retail electricity supplier (RES). The arrangement is expected to provide Bonchon with more competitive generation rates, thereby reducing one of its largest operating expenses.

The Energy Regulatory Commission recently revised the contestable demand requirement under the RCOA program from 500 kW to 100 kW. This revision allows more smaller commercial establishments to participate in the program. EvoEnergi stated that this regulatory change has enabled them to secure electricity requirements for more smaller commercial and institutional clients from an RES at competitive rates.

EvoEnergi expressed optimism about catering to more clients in the future, given the positive impact of RCOA on the market.
