Manila: Most areas in the Philippines are predicted to experience generally fair weather on Saturday, with scattered rains and thunderstorms anticipated in parts of northern Luzon and Mindanao. This weather pattern is due to the influence of a frontal system and the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ). According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has reported that the frontal system is impacting extreme northern Luzon. This is causing cloudy skies accompanied by scattered rains and thunderstorms in regions such as Batanes and the Babuyan Islands. Residents in these areas are advised to remain vigilant as moderate to heavy rains could potentially lead to flash floods or landslides. The ITCZ is notably affecting southern Mindanao, resulting in cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over areas including the Zamboanga Peninsula, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Basilan, and Tawi-Tawi . PAGASA has issued warnings about possible flooding and landslides during periods of moderate to heavy rainfall. In Metro Manila and other parts of the country, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms are expected due to localized thunderstorms. The weather bureau cautions that severe thunderstorms could still trigger flash floods or landslides in susceptible regions. PAGASA has also confirmed that no low-pressure areas (LPA) are currently being monitored, following the dissipation of the previous weather disturbance formerly known as Tropical Storm Caloy. Moderate winds and moderate coastal waters are anticipated over northern Luzon, while the rest of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao will experience light to moderate winds with slight to moderate seas. In addition to the weather forecast, at least 41 areas are predicted to experience dangerous heat indices on Sunday. Dipolog in Zamboanga del Norte is expected to face the highest heat index, reaching 46°C. Other areas, includ ing Coron in Palawan, Sangley Point in Cavite City, and Guiuan in Eastern Samar, are forecast to have heat indices of 45°C. Metro Manila, particularly NAIA Pasay City, is expected to endure a heat index of 44°C, along with several other locations across the country. Residents in these areas are urged to take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related health issues.
