Families Affected by Severe Weather Rise to 224,549; Confirmed Deaths at 3

Manila: Families affected by the series of severe weather disturbances have climbed to 224,549 as of Thursday, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

According to Philippines News Agency, the NDRRMC reported that these 224,549 families, accounting for 915,827 individuals, were from the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Central Luzon, National Capital Region (NCR), Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

As of Thursday afternoon, there were 7,438 families taking temporary shelter in 373 evacuation centers, while an additional 8,019 families were seeking refuge in other locations.

The NDRRMC's report also indicated that 13 people have been reported killed, with three of these deaths, all occurring in CAR, confirmed as weather-related. The remaining deaths are still undergoing validation, with eight reported in Cagayan Valley and two in Central Luzon.

Further information from the NDRRMC noted that 17 people were reported injured, of whom 10 have been confirmed. Additionally, one of the two persons reported missing has been confirmed.

The severe weather also caused damage to 2,877 houses across eight regions, with varying degrees of destruction. The recent adverse weather conditions were attributed to the southwest monsoon ("habagat"), which was intensified by Super Typhoon Nando (international name Ragasa), Tropical Depression Mirasol, and Severe Tropical Storm Opong.
