Manila: The electricity bills of consumers will be higher this month due to increases in transmission charges, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) said Thursday.
According to Philippines News Agency, the national grid operator stated that the overall transmission rate this month inched up by 13.55 percent, or PHP1.5279 per kilowatt hour (kWh), from PHP1.3455/kWh in January. The increase is attributed to the ancillary services (AS), which involve costs from the AS reserve market and providers with bilateral contracts with NGCP, now priced at PHP0.6736/kWh.
The wheeling rate, which is the fee imposed by the NGCP for delivering electricity through the transmission grid, has been adjusted to PHP0.6921/kWh. For February 2026, NGCP charges around 69 centavos per kWh for the delivery of its services.
The grid operator emphasized that it cannot charge beyond what has been approved by the Energy Regulatory Commission, as its revenues are regulated and capped.
