Field Trials of Avian Flu Vaccine Set for Completion by Q1

Manila: At least two field trials of vaccines targeting the highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) are expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter.

According to Philippines News Agency, Assistant Secretary Arnel de Mesa from the Department of Agriculture (DA) disclosed that these field trials are being conducted by entities from Hungary and Germany. Although the DA has not revealed the names of the vaccine companies involved, de Mesa expressed anticipation for the trials to conclude within the expected timeframe.

Once the trials are finished, the results will be submitted to the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) via the Veterinary Quarantine Station. De Mesa mentioned that the BAI will then seek an endorsement from the Food and Drug Administration to proceed further.

De Mesa also assured that the avian flu situation in the country is currently under control, with strict measures being enforced. As of now, there have been no reported cases of HPAI from January 4 to 24, as confirmed by the BAI. The last recorded case occurred on January 3 in Pandi, Bulacan, affecting ducks.
