Filipinos Continue to Offer Condolences to Pope Francis

Manila: Filipinos continue to pay their last respects to the late Pope Francis as they lined up at the Embassy of the Holy See-Apostolic Nunciature situated along Taft Avenue, Manila. "It is really a joy to witness the outpouring of affection for Pope Francis that we're seeing today. Not only today, but in these last several days after the departure from this earth of Pope Francis on Easter Monday," Papal Nuncio to the Philippines Archbishop Charles Brown said in an interview on Tuesday.

According to Philippines News Agency, people from all walks of life have trooped to the Apostolic Nunciature to write their messages and offer their condolences to the late Holy Father, who passed away on April 21 at the age of 88. Brown said they opened the Apostolic Nunciature to the public in accordance with the policy of Pope Francis.

"We thought it is a very fitting way of memorializing Pope Francis because he had the idea that the Church should be open to everyone," he said. The Vatican representative also shared how Pope Francis loved the Philippines and its people. "Whenever I would go to Rome and meet with Pope Francis, he was always asking me to ask the Filipinos to pray for him. So he had a great love for Filipino Catholics," Brown said.

Pope Francis visited the Philippines in January 2025 and met with the victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda in Tacloban City.
