Makati city: First Gen Corp. will supply about 1,300 kilowatts (kW) of geothermal energy to Eastern Communications Philippines, Inc.'s headquarters in Makati City and technical centers. This collaboration is set to enhance the sustainability efforts of Eastern Communications by utilizing renewable energy sources.

According to Philippines News Agency, the agreement was signed on February 11, under the government's Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) program. This program allows companies with significant electricity requirements to select their suppliers and benefit from competitive rates. The energy provided will be sourced from First Gen's generating plants located in Tongonan, Ormoc City, and Kananga, Leyte.

Eastern Communications co-coordinators Aileen Regio and Jaeson Evangelista emphasized the importance of sustainability, stating that it involves respecting natural resources and contributing to a circular economy. They expressed excitement about transitioning to renewable energy and reducing the country's overall carbon footprint with the assistance of First Gen.

Arlene Sy-Soriano, head of sales and engagement at First Gen, highlighted that stable and reliable support systems are crucial for information and communications technology services. She noted that geothermal energy would enable Eastern Communications to conduct operations with reduced carbon intensity, aligning with the company's sustainability objectives.
