Pagudpud: Relief items, ranging from food packs to animal feeds, have started arriving for families in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, after the area was declared under a state of calamity following the impact of Super Typhoon Nando, internationally known as Ragasa.
According to Philippines News Agency, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) delivered 100 family food packs, while the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) provided buckets filled with rice, canned goods, and instant foods. Additionally, animal feeds valued at PHP360,000 and veterinary medicines were distributed to support affected farmers and poultry raisers.
Ilocos Norte Governor Cecilia Araneta-Marcos oversaw the distribution at the Pagudpud Cultural and Sports Complex. She assured residents that while their livelihoods can be restored, their safety remains the priority.
The town was placed under a state of calamity on Thursday through Municipal Resolution No. 2025B-054, allowing local authorities to access calamity funds for relief and rehabilitation. Initial estimates suggest that damage in Pagudpud may reach PHP207 million for infrastructure and PHP12 million for agriculture.
Provincial veterinarian Loida Valenzuela noted reports of livestock deaths and damage to animal shelters, emphasizing the urgency of delivering veterinary supplies and feeds to affected farmers.
