Government Mobilizes for Smooth School Reopening, Says President Marcos

Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday assured public school teachers that the entire government is mobilized to support the safe and smooth opening of classes for the School Year (SY) 2025-2026, with various agencies addressing key education-related concerns. Speaking via teleconference to teachers from across the country after inspecting the Epifanio Delos Santos Elementary School in Malate, Manila, Marcos emphasized the government's whole-of-nation approach to improving learning conditions.

According to Philippines News Agency, the President highlighted the involvement of multiple government departments, including the Department of Health (DOH), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and Department of Transportation (DOTr), in closely monitoring the situation. Marcos reiterated that education remains the most important undertaking of his administration.

The President also noted the hiring of new personnel to alleviate teachers' workloads by taking over administrative tasks, allowing educators to focus solely on teaching students. He encouraged teachers to report any gaps or issues directly to the Department of Education (DepEd) or their local superintendents, assuring them of immediate attention.

Marcos expressed gratitude to educators for ensuring an orderly start to the academic year. Approximately 27 million learners are expected to return to school for SY 2025-2026. The DepEd has reverted to the original June to March school calendar, following Marcos' directive to prevent learning loss due to successive missed school days caused by various weather disturbances.
