Government Plans Construction of New Housing Units and Cold Storage Facilities

Manila: The government is planning the construction of new housing units and cold storage facilities, as announced by Malaca±ang on Tuesday. This initiative follows a sectoral meeting led by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. at Malaca±an Palace.

According to Philippines News Agency, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro shared details about the meeting. She stated that discussions focused on housing projects and various initiatives by the Department of Agriculture (DA), including the development of food hubs and cold storage facilities. Castro emphasized the need for an appropriate budget to ensure the successful implementation of these projects by relevant agencies.

Castro did not provide further details on the specific plans for the new housing and cold storage projects. However, in an additional statement posted on its official Facebook page, the PCO highlighted DA Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr.'s presentation to President Marcos. The presentation included plans for expanding cold storage facilities, with a proposed allocation of PHP3 billion for 99 facilities aimed at extending the shelf life of agricultural products and maintaining price stability and food security.

The establishment of food hubs across strategic locations nationwide was also a topic of discussion during the meeting. These hubs are intended to improve access for suppliers and buyers, enhancing the distribution of fruits, vegetables, and high-value crops throughout the country.
