MANILA: The national government and local government units have delivered significant assistance to families impacted by the recent eruption of the Kanlaon Volcano, amounting to approximately PHP148.9 million. The eruption, which occurred on December 9, has affected thousands of families across the Western and Central Visayas regions, prompting a robust response from disaster management authorities.
According to Philippines News Agency, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that the Western Visayas region received PHP45.72 million in aid, while Central Visayas was allocated PHP103.24 million. This assistance has been instrumental in supporting 7,309 families in Western Visayas and 2,453 families in Central Visayas. The aid packages include essentials such as family food packs, sleeping kits, hygiene kits, and financial support.
The situation report from the NDRRMC notes that a total of 12,043 families, encompassing 46,259 individuals, have been affected by the volcanic activity across 26 barangays in the two regions. Of these, 4,429 families, or 14,501 people, are currently residing in 34 evacuation centers, where they continue to receive necessary support and care.
