Manila: The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) is intensifying its outreach to members in Basilan, with President and General Manager Wick Veloso spearheading a meeting with teachers of Basilan National High School (BNHS). The session aimed to gather feedback and evaluate additional support for the province's largest public secondary school.

According to Philippines News Agency, Veloso conducted the dialogue in Isabela City as part of GSIS' ongoing efforts to provide services to government workers in remote areas. He emphasized that direct consultations are crucial to ensuring GSIS policies effectively address the evolving needs of its members, particularly those working outside urban centers.

BNHS, a significant educational institution under the Isabela City Schools Division, caters to around 8,000 junior and senior high school students. During the forum, teachers expressed concerns about the resumption of dividend releases and suggested improvements to the GSIS Educational Subsidy Program (GESP). They proposed expanding GESP coverage to include dependents such as nephews and nieces and allowing college students in all year levels to qualify.

Acknowledging the challenges associated with the school's large student population, Veloso recommended BNHS for assessment under the GSIS Adopt-A-School Program for 2026. This long-standing corporate social responsibility initiative aids public schools, particularly those underserved, by funding technology upgrades, facility enhancements, and digital learning tools, in collaboration with the Department of Education.

GSIS noted that the visit to Basilan underlines its dedication to member-centered policymaking and to ensuring that teachers and government personnel in remote communities have access to responsive and accessible services.
