Osaka: Hundreds of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) renewed their driver's licenses online during the 'Serbisyo (Service) Caravan' in Osaka, Japan, on Sunday. In a statement on Monday, Land Transportation Office (LTO) acting Assistant Secretary Greg Pua said the caravan was in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to shift all government services to digital platforms.
According to Philippines News Agency, the online driver's license renewal was piloted in Taiwan last year and includes the option of having licenses delivered via accredited courier services. The entire process, from application to delivery to their foreign address, can take anywhere from three to five days.
The LTO is considering expanding the program to other regions, specifically the Middle East, the United States, and Europe. Pua assured that the LTO is committed to accelerating government transactions as part of the new directives under the current administration.
