Iloilo city: Villages in this city have been advised to clear waterways and prune trees in preparation for moderate to heavy rains from the southwest monsoon (habagat), which is enhanced by Super Typhoon Bavi. Darwin Papa, head of the disaster response division of the Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Office, emphasized that based on their pre-disaster risk assessment and scenario building, Bavi is not expected to directly affect the city. Moderate to heavy rains are forecast from Thursday to Sunday.
According to Philippines News Agency, 'Barangay DRRM committees have been instructed to conduct their local pre-disaster risk assessments to determine the needs of their respective areas,' Papa said. The city recommended placing the City Emergency Operations Center under blue alert, meaning all response clusters and resources are on standby for possible deployment. Meanwhile, personnel of the Iloilo City Police Office have been directed to prepare for immediate deployment to assist communities that may be affected.
The police office stated that its search and rescue teams are on standby, while other personnel have been assigned to provide traffic management, public safety assistance, and information dissemination, particularly in flood-prone areas. Mobile patrol units have been ordered to intensify monitoring of critical areas and respond quickly to emergencies. Preparations include accounting for search and rescue personnel and checking rescue equipment.
'Iloilo City Police Office is fully prepared to respond to emergencies and provide necessary assistance to those who may be affected by the typhoon,' ICPO Director Col. Wilbert Parilla said. 'We encourage the public to stay informed and take all necessary precautions.' Bavi is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) between Tuesday evening and early Wednesday morning. It will be given the local name Inday once inside the PAR.
