Iloilo city: The sole electricity distributor in Iloilo City has introduced its first fully unmanned substation, a landmark initiative in the energy sector in Western Visayas. More Electric and Power Corp. (MORE Power) announced that this 30 megavolt-ampere substation is controlled remotely from its control center using an advanced Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.
According to Philippines News Agency, the substation's fully automated design is managed entirely from the control center, delivering real-time data with all essential information. This state-of-the-art setup allows for the monitoring of load flow, voltage levels, and equipment conditions without requiring on-site human supervision. Expanding SCADA systems and implementing intelligent electronic devices are crucial parts of MORE Power's five-year development plan and grid modernization efforts.
Wilmar Gonzaludo, MORE Power's System Planning and Design manager, credited the project's success to long and meticulous planning coupled with a deep understanding of the system requirements for Iloilo consumers. Substation project manager Mark Anthony Molano highlighted the importance of reinforcing the distribution system's foundation to better serve consumers, particularly during peak demand periods. He noted that the use of SCADA and automation is already prevalent elsewhere, and with MORE Power's commitment, Iloilo City can leverage this advanced technology to provide high-quality services to its consumers.
MORE Power has also assured the community of tight security measures, including guards stationed around the substations and vital installations, in response to the increasing electricity demands driven by the economic growth of Iloilo City and the province.
