Iloilo city: The local government has received an additional PHP1.41 billion through Supplemental Budget No. 1, approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod (City Council). City Budget Officer Viminale Capulso announced that the funds were accumulated from savings spanning the years 2018 to 2024.
According to Philippines News Agency, Mayor Raisa Tre±as directed city officials to seek additional funds due to an ongoing energy emergency. Capulso explained to the city council that PHP22 million of the budget has been earmarked for the implementation of the third tranche of the salary standardization law.
The budget also includes a PHP30 million allocation for a fuel subsidy program, which began in March. "We will sustain them for the next six months. We will give a subsidy every month," Capulso stated in a follow-up interview.
An additional PHP40 million has been allocated for assistance to individuals in crisis situations. "This is in preparation for whatever the worst thing that could happen as a result of the Middle East conflict," Capulso added.
The supplemental budget also provides for a cash-for-work program aimed at indigent residents to help mitigate the effects of high inflation. The PHP1.41 billion supplemental budget primarily supports the general fund, with PHP565,414 allocated to the special account for local economic enterprises. This fund addresses various administrative, social, and infrastructure needs across different city offices.
