Manila: Passengers from Iloilo City heading to their destinations have been advised not to wait until the last minute to travel, following observations of fewer buses servicing the increasing number of passengers. Police Regional Office 6 (Western Visayas) Director Brig. Gen. Jack Wanky made this call during an inspection at the Ceres terminal in Iloilo City on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Philippines News Agency, Brig. Gen. Wanky visited three major terminals, including the Ceres terminal in Jaro district for passengers going north of Iloilo, Aklan, and Capiz; the Mohon terminal in Arevalo district for those traveling to southern Iloilo and Antique; and the People's terminal in the municipality of Pavia for those heading to central Iloilo. The management of the Ceres assured that they could serve all passengers but did not rule out the possibility of delays.
Ceres dispatcher Edgar Tomedo Sr. stated in a separate interview that contingencies are in place to provide extra trips to waiting passengers. Passengers are instructed to queue up in designated areas for their trips, with priority lanes available for pregnant women, persons with disability, and senior citizens. The last trips to the towns of Barotac Viejo, Estancia, and Carles are scheduled for 9:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m., and 5:30 p.m., respectively. On Good Friday, April 18, there will be a reduction in manpower and service, with the last trip leaving the terminal at 7:30 p.m.
To ensure public safety, PRO6 has deployed 1,680 personnel in strategic and critical areas of convergence, such as churches, ports, terminals, malls, and tourist spots, starting Maundy Thursday. Police assistance desks have also been established to assist the public.
