Iloilo city: The Iloilo Provincial Library and Archives has recommended a selection of free public domain horror classics for readers to enjoy this Halloween season. Provincial Librarian Allana Delgado highlighted that works by Edgar Allan Poe and other renowned authors, whose stories have inspired numerous films and literary adaptations, are available for free download from Project Gutenberg. According to Philippines News Agency, Delgado mentioned in an interview that the copyright for these works has expired, making them available for free download. Interested readers can access these materials through the FREE eBook Reader app: ReadEra, available on Google Play and the Apple Store, or directly from Project Gutenberg's website. Delgado expressed enthusiasm about sharing these resources, noting that many people might be in search of reading material to complement their Halloween movie watching. She emphasized the availability of high-quality classic books online, making this an opportune time to delve into them. Among the highlighted works on the Iloilo Provincial Library and Archives Facebook page are "At the Mountains of Madness" by H.P. Lovecraft, "The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde, "The Works of Edgar Allan Poe, The Raven Edition," "Frankenstein" by Mary Shelley, "Wuthering Heights" by Emily Brontë, and "Dracula" by Bram Stoker. Delgado noted that while some of these are fantasy and horror classics, "Wuthering Heights" was included due to its elements of a ghost story. Project Gutenberg, recognized as one of the oldest online libraries, is committed to digitizing public domain books for free download. Delgado added that the library frequently shares relevant free resources on their Facebook page to engage with the community.
